Welcome to the School City of East Chicago's Special Education Department!
East Chicago Schools is committed to the belief that every student can learn, though each child’s journey to excellence is uniquely their own. This is especially true for students with special needs, who may require additional support to realize their fullest potential.
Through a range of specialized programs, we provide the tools, resources, and guidance necessary to help these students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Our Special Education Services support children with mental, physical, and emotional challenges, as well as those with learning disabilities, ensuring they receive the individualized attention they deserve.
Our mission is to deliver personalized services that meet each student’s specific needs. Support is available from preschool through grade 12, and in certain cases, through age 22. Guided by the Individualized Education Program (IEP), services may include assistance within the general education classroom or direct instruction in specialized settings—always with the goal of helping every learner thrive.
