April 14, 2026 - Regular School Board Meeting

Last night, the Board of Trustees approved the Title I and Title II federal grants which support academic support systems (Strategic Focus Area 1) and professional development of staff (Strategic Focus Area 5).
We graciously accepted the Foundations of East Chicago Target Grant which will enhance our Fitness Center facility.
They supported two Work Based Learning (WBL) summer internships for students in Applied Skills and in the Digital Design pathway which aligns with our Career Pathways (Strategic Focus Area 3).
A Memorandum of Understanding was also approved which clearly defines the qualifications of paraprofessionals for summer school (Strategic Focus Areas 1 and 5).
A number of professional development requests were also approved (Strategic Focus Area 5).
Revision of Policies on Retirement, the School Calendar and Holidays went through first reading.
The E-Rate Bids and Personnel Report were also approved.
Finally, the board approved Energy Support Group (ESG) to start a guaranteed energy savings project which will improve indoor air quality, learning environments, and save the district in costs related to rising utility rates.

April 28, 2026 - Regular School Board Meeting

Last night, the Board of Trustees approved the renovations of our elementary playgrounds as well as the new Pre-Kindergarten classrooms.
The Board of Trustees approved the Title III federal grants which support academic support systems (Strategic Focus Area 1).
We graciously accepted the IDOE Teacher Appreciation Grant which will assist in our teacher retention efforts; the GoGreen Grant which will support our goals of better indoor air quality; and the Cambridge Grant which offers another diploma seal for seniors.
We approved a contract for our occupational therapist to support students during summer school.
They supported hiring a teacher to prepare students for the paraprofessional exam which aligns with academic support systems, career pathways, and professional development (Strategic Focus Areas 1, 3 and 5).
The 2025-2026 stipend for our maintenance union was approved.
A number of resolutions were passed to move the process of a 30 million dollar bond forward which will also support capital projects including HVAC at Central.
We also approved motions to waive collection fees and cancel stale-dated checks. We will communicate to staff the process for requesting the reissuance of an expired check.
The quote to hire College Hunks Hauling and Moving was approved to assist with relocating Carrie Gosch staff.
A number of professional development requests were also approved (Strategic Focus Area 5).
We resolved to transition to self-operated food service for the upcoming school year.
Revision of Policies on Retirement, the School Calendar and Holidays went through second reading and were approved by the Board.
The Personnel Report was also approved.
Finally, the board approved an interlocal agreement to transfer the administration building’s deed to the city of East Chicago.
