
Notification of School Closings or Delays
When it is necessary to close or delay the opening of school for inclement weather or other reasons, one of the plans listed below will be followed. Any announced school closing is for that day only unless otherwise specified.
- School closing or delay information will be announced via robo calls, text message, district website, and social media in the early morning. As much as we try to stay on top of the local weather and road conditions, it is hoped that the decision and announcement is made to families and staff before 6:00 AM.
- If families and staff receive a text message from an unknown source, we encourage you to please open it.
- If the weather conditions are stable and/or known the previous evening, families and staff will be notified as soon as a decision is made.
- Closings or delays are also posted on our website and our social media platforms
- Closings or delays are shared with the local television and radio stations so that the information can be shared with viewers and listeners.
Parent Authority & Student Safety
In addition to the precautions taken by the school district to monitor weather conditions, parents have full authority to determine whether it is safe for their children to travel to and from school. Parents may decide.

SCEC will announce delays and closings through the following channels:
- SCEC website - A prominent alert banner will appear on the homepage.
- SCEC messaging platform - Instant alerts via text message, phone call, and email.
- SCEC social media - Posted upon decision.
- Local media partners - Our local tv station & radio station.
